Those whom have ears to hear, let them see..those whom have eyes to see..let them hear good...Kripto Yoga 2.12 verses or the hairy hands of non-duality

Lead me from dreaming to waking.
Lead me from opacity to clarity. Lead me from the complicated to the simple. Lead me from the obscure to the obvious. Lead me from intention to attention. Lead me from what I'm told I am to what I see I am. Lead me from confrontation to wide openness. Lead me to the place I never left, Where there is peace, and peace -from the Upanishads- Unless you know the emptiness and bliss inside yourself..you'll be a robot forced by the same emptiness and bliss trying to know itself..by pain.. ...inside your self also..trust me!..said the mahayogi!
In silence there must be movement, and in motion,
There must be silence.
A small movement is better than a big one..
No movement is better than a small one..listen!
Silence is all the movement's mother..
In Movement you should be like a dragon or a tiger.
In non Movement you should be like a Buddha.
-- Wang Xiangzhai(November 26, 1885 - July 12, 1963}
What is referred to as mindlessness is absence of the human mentality; what is referred to as mindfulness is mindfulness of the Tao. When one is free of the human mentality, the mutual sensing of the earthly and celestial is swift; when one is mindful of the Tao, effective practice endures. Swiftness of sensing comes about spontaneously, without cultivation, without striving; long perseverance comes about through effort, and involves action and striving. Striving and non-striving each has its secret; the distinction is all a matter of the absence of the human mentality and the presence of mindfulness of the Tao. After one has reached complete realization of the universal Tao, neither existence nor nonexistence remain; others and self are ultimately empty, and one enters the state of ultimate truthfulness, like a spirit. Here, it is not only the human mentality that cannot be applied; even the mindfulness of Tao is not applicable." - Liu I-ming The Conduct of the Moon and Clouds

The consistent conduct of people of the Way is like the flowing clouds with no grasping mind, like the full moon reflecting universally, not confined anywhere, glistening within each of the ten thousand forms. Dignified and upright, emerge and make contact with the variety of phenomena, unstained and unconfused. Function the same toward all others since all have the same substance as you. Language cannot transmit this, speculation cannot reach it. Leaping beyond the infinite and cutting off the dependent, be obliging without looking for merit. This marvel cannot be measured with consciousness or emotion. On the journey accept your function, in your house please sustain it. Comprehending birth and death, leaving causes and conditions, genuinely realize that from the outset your spirit is not halted. So we have been told that the mind that embraces all the ten directions does not stop anywhere. -- Hongzhi Zhengjue (1091-1157)

The Conduct of the Moon and Clouds

So we have been told that the  mind that embraces all the ten directions does not stop anywhere.

check out his hairy hands ..formidable black hairs of wisdom he grew on his intensive 10 fingers buddhist meditation insight non-dual practice,indeed...kisses to him for his site..lots of useful links there, and if you've got the time....then read his journal too..his main site is  Phil Servedio..I am always fascinated and pay my mahayogi respects to people who actually write about the way of HOW they meditate...because these days,it seems to me that everybody is some nutcase non-dualist...everybody knows the truth, and they have grabbed the truth by it's balls,it seems..if you ask them ,,how you meditate,,??..you get the response ,,I watch the breath,,...or worse..,,I pray to my local Shiva gold lingam..since Shiva's penis would save my ass,,..or,,I bow down to Allah the Mighty 5 times a day..then in my spare time I am a suicidal terrorist ,since by dying I go to heaven..or even worse...,,I pray to my guru forever, since he was the only ONE..ever...he was god,and I am the fruitcake whom begs god for mercy...or even wayyyyy much worse...Jesus died for my sins..so I can sin freely since he saved my ass..and he is my personal savior, since I talk to him daily, and I have a personal jesus ..yes..I have a personal jesus out there..and if I pray to him,he'll fulfill all my wishes, since he is a good jesus, and he obeys my fruitcake's wishes, and he does as I command..all I have to do is pray to the sucker and say,,Thank you Jesus,,..thank you ..you were a good Jesus for fulfilling my wishes..thank you again, praise the Lord you Jesus in my large BOTTLE..YOU'RE my genie in a bottle,if I rub(pray to you)  the right way...you''ll do it,no?..then rub the mahayogi good..maybe he'll be your genie too..and you won't have to do any spiritual work,no meditation..all you have to do is to rub my overgrown 12 inches wisdom brain muscles..methinks ..maybe I'll do it,indeed..you numb-nuts!

In any case..asking people about how they meditate is a no-no these days...trust the mahayogi(loved in the 3 realms, respected in 10..celebrated in the 18th also by himself)

They always tell you HOW it is..everything is set up in stones for them...the universe is this..the reincarnation is that..the bliss is this..the truth is that...the mystery of creation is the Shiva Lingam...Jehovah is the best and the only one if you're a good Jew...Krishna is good also, but he never heard of Jehovah.....there are no shortcuts to their insanity..

This is what bothers me mostly..their self assurance that there is nothing left for them to discover...

They got the truth of the universe by it's balls..and that's it...REALLY???

This is when the universe and the KRIPTO spirit within them will give them so much pain,I wonder how they'll avoid it by just watching the breath,or by saying..I am that...or.I am happy...and I am the only one whom knows best..be aware that the whole PURPOSE of life is to Know your source..The source is immortal eternal bliss, but by getting STUCK in manifestations and imaginations of it's own(your attention gets stuck) only time will tell indeed if you want to understand that it's your own doing, and maybe in the end try to understand that there is NO GOD other then your true self...there is NO power outside of yourself, but it is fractal power..what you believe will happen...ponder grasshoppers from heaven..the future of the humanity depends on this secret..only time will tell if you will understand this esoteric principle..trust me..

Only time will tell indeed..for I'll not be alive when that happens, that's for sure...Buddha died,Socrates died...Jesus died..Mohammed died...and I'm not feeling too good either...kiss from the mahayogi:)

.................

I've had already very bad experiences with sites going offline...maybe I'll just post all his hairy gems of spirituality just to be sure they are locked in the kripto locker ..for now I'll just post this formidable explaining from Naropa  ...very good indeed...clearly he knew the truth, but don't bet your ass that you'd understand his words..really..unless you're close to his level, his words will go thru your left ear,and leave in a sudden fart of disappointment right thru your right side of your grasshopper ass  ...while singing like James Brown..

I feel good to reject the wisdom you'll say..I feel GOOD not to meditate too..,,..since your own personal ideas, beliefs ..and secondary consciousness factors inside your grasshoppers selves will decide for you what is good or not...and not the real Kripto YOU within..story of humanity indeed..anyway...this is the primary reason people don't start meditating..is BECAUSE they believe is must be automatic, not realizing those extra negativities in them who rule their lives!!..how they COULD KNOW unless they make an effort to escape suffering?...and enter true samadhi ???...they even say their suffering is bliss!!..such is the state of the humanity and of the individuals these days...... I love you too grasshoppers from heaven..always did..thus loved the mahayogi!..kiss:)

The View, Concisely Put

by Naropa

translated by Erik Pema Kunsang

Homage to the Vajra Dakini!

To the omniscient Lord of Refuge,

The protector of beings, I pay homage!  After pursuing statements and reasoning

I have condensed and established the true meaning.

All these apparent and existing phenomena

Are nowhere apart from mind, your own awareness.

Since it perceives and is cognizant,

It is like experience that is self-known.

If this mind was not like that

There would be no link and therefore no experience.

This is how I have established the relative:

"Understand that all phenomena are based on mind," as it is said.

The very basis of phenomena, which is mind essence,

Can be analyzed, dissected with reasoning, and so forth,

But this naturally luminous mind

And the momentary defilement of thought these two,

Whether they are one or different Is a topic of extreme profundity .

Because of this depth, scholars analyze.

Though they explain, I shall not write about it here.

This mind that knows emptiness

Is itself the awakened mind, bodhicitta.

The buddha potential is just this.

The sugata essence is just this.

Because of tasting what is,

It is also the great bliss.

The understanding of secret mantra is just this.

Means and knowledge is just this.

The vast and profound is just this.

Samantabhadra with consort is just this.

This space and wisdom, perceiving while being empty ,

Is what is called "knowing original enlightenment."

This self-knowing, while one is still defiled,

Does not depend on other things,

So self-existing wakefulness is just this.

Being aware, it is cognizance.

A natural knowing that is free of thought.

This self-knowing cannot possibly form thoughts.

Without conceptualizing a 'mind,'

Since it is not something to be conceived,

This original wakefulness, cognizant yet thought-free,

Is like the wisdom of the Tathagata.

Therefore, it is taught, "Realize that luminous mind

Is the mind of original wakefulness,

And don't seek an enlightenment separate from that."

Nevertheless, this mind does become disturbed

By the defilement of momentary thoughts,

Like water, like gold, like the sky,

It may be either pure or impure.

But the naturally luminous mind

Is free from even a hair-tip of concrete substance,

Like the analogy of a sky flower .

It does not exist as it seems to be,

Therefore, it cannot be established to be non-existent.

As everything is mutually dependent,

When one side is invalid, the other side does not exist.

Mind is neither existent nor nonexistent.

Since each of these [ constructs ] is negated.

It is also not both,

Since existing and not existing are a contradiction.

It is not a living being Nor other than living beings.

Therefore, it is free from all constructs.

This is how I have established the ultimate:

"Mind is based on space," as it is said.

This unconstructed self-knowing

Perceives while empty , and while empty it perceives.

Experience and emptiness are therefore indivisible,

Like the analogy of the moon in water.

This is how I have established non duality:

"Space is not based on anything," as it is said.

This unconstructed self-knowing

Is itself the very basis of samsara.

Nirvana as well is also just this.

The Great Middle Way is also just this.

That to be seen is also just this.

That to train is also just this.

That to attain is also just this.

The valid truth is also just this.

The renowned threefold tantras

Of basic cause, method, and result,

And what is known as ground, path, and fruition,

Are just different situations of this.

The basic consciousness, the all-ground,

And all possible aggregates in samsara,

Are known as the' dependent,' and so forth.

Emaho!

The creations of this mind essence, while one is still defiled,

The six classes of beings, and so forth,

Extending to the bounds of space,

Are the magical machinery of suffering,

Which surpasses the grasp of thought.

This unconstructed self-knowing itself

Which is free from the defilement of thought,

Is the non dwelling nirvana.

The Vajra Being is also just this.

The Sixth Buddha is also just this.

The six families are also just this.

Manjusri Kumara is just this.

Vairochana is just this.

Dharmakaya, the great bliss,

And the state of unity are also just this.

This itself is the fourth empowerment.

Innate joy is also just this.

Natural purity is also just this.

All these and other different indicators

Known from the sutras and tantras,

Are for the most part based on this;

Simply combined with this in whichever way is suitable.

Emaho!

The creations of this undefiled mind essence,

What comprises the kayas of form:

The buddha fields of utter purity ,

The magically created mandalas, and so forth-

All these creations of great wonder-

Appear, extending to the bounds of space.

The non-Buddhist Tirthikas,

In their ignorance of mind itself,

Are submerged in an ocean of erroneous philosophy

Involving a self, a supreme godhead, and the like.

The schools of Buddhism, such as the shravakas,

The pratyekabuddhas, and the followers of Mind Only,

Maintain the duality of perceiver and perceived,

And conceptualize non duality as being the true,

Moreover, they get caught in the web of concepts

Such as whether the perceived is real or false.

By not mistaking the view in this way,

You attain enlightenment through the meditation training and conduct,

That are in harmony with the real,

Just like a well-trained race horse.

Unless you are in harmony with the real view,

Your meditation training and conduct will be mistaken

And you will not attain fruition,

Like a blind man without a guide.

Song of Experience In Clear-Light Cave

Milarepa left White Rock Horse Tooth Cave and returned again to the Clear Light Cave of Gungthang.  While he was staying there clear illumination grew stronger in this concentrated mind and he sang this song.

Homage to my holy lama!

I, the yogi Milarepa offer my experience and realization

to all meditators of the ten directions.

My mind is relaxed in its natural state

without rigidity or tension through gentle,

undistracted cultivation.

I look straight ahead with the eye of critical awareness,

station behind the watchman of recollective awareness,

and hold body and mind comfortably alert.

My mind rests in its natural state,

unaffected by drowsiness or depression.

The aberrations of mind's eye

and the various experiences during tranquilization

dissolved and sent back to their natural place.

In the experience of thought free tranquilization

the clear mind possesses its own force,

naked, limpid and pure.

This is correct tranquilization experience.

Some claim this is insight, I don't agree.

So upon the horse of good tranquilization

I mount awareness which comprehends the

selflessness of both persons and things

through fine inspection by analytic wisdom.

Carrying as provisions my lama's blessings

which were sought with plaintive prayer,

I'm accompanied by wisdom and method

with personalities of voidness and compassion.

Driven on by the profound,

great iron goad of strongly motivated good wishes,

I look again and again at basic reality with gentle,

undistracted cultivation,

free from hope and from despair.

Know that having traveled this good meditation path,

I see it now with insight.

Know I've arrived in the untraveled country,

know I have flour without grinding.

Know that I watch the unseen spectacle.

Know that I've found an auspicious homeland.

Know that I've found a constant consort.

Know I proved welfare for my self and others.

These are the treasure of Milarepa;

If I'm on the wrong path, please set me straight.

Eh ma! Till you practicers of the ten directions

attain perfect buddhahood don't deny cause

and effect of action!

Till you've realized the actual state,

don't make senseless, empty talk!

Till you're able to exchange your interests with others'

don't say, "I've attained the production stage!"

Till both stages are attained, don't say, "

I'm a yogin of secret mantras!"

Tilopa's Song To Naropa

Mahamudra, the royal way, is free

from every word and sacred symbol.

For you alone, beloved Naropa,

this wonderful song springs forth from Tilopa

as spontaneous friendship that never ends.

The completely open nature

of all dimensions and events

is a rainbow always occurring

yet never grasped.

The way of Mahamudra

creates no closure.

No strenuous mental effort

can encounter this wide open way.

The effortless freedom of awareness

moves naturally along it.

As space is always freshly appearing

and never filled,

so the mind is without limits

and ever aware.

Gazing with sheer awareness

into sheer awareness,

habitual, abstract structures melt

into the fruitful springtime of Buddhahood.

White clouds that drift through blue sky,

changing shape constantly,

have no root, no foundation, no dwelling;

nor do changing patterns of thought

that float through the sky of mind.

When the formless expanse of awareness

comes clearly into view,

obsession with thought forms

ceases easily and naturally.

As within the openness of universal space

shapes and colors are spontaneously forming,

although space has no color or form,

so within the expanse of awareness

realms, relations and values are arising,

although awareness possesses

no positive or negative characteristics.

As the darkness of night,

even were it to last a thousand years,

could not conceal the rising sun,

so countless ages of conflict and suffering

cannot conceal the innate radiance of Mind.

Although philosophers explain

the transparent openness of appearances

as empty of permanent characteristics

and completely indeterminable,

this universal indeterminacy

can itself never be determined.

Although sages report

the nature of awareness to be luminosity,

this limitless radiance cannot be contained

within any language or sacramental system.

Although the very essence of Mind

is to be void of either subjects or objects,

it tenderly embraces all life within its womb.

To realize this inexpressible truth,

do not manipulate mind or body

but simply open into transparency

with relaxed, natural grace

intellect at ease in silence,

limbs at rest in stillness

like hollow bamboos.

Neither breathing in nor breathing out

with the breath of habitual thinking,

allow the mind to be at peace

in brilliant wakefulness.

This is the royal wealth of Mahamudra,

no common coin of any realm.

Beloved Naropa, this treasure of Buddhahood

belongs to you and to all beings.

Obsessive use of meditative disciplines

or perennial study of scripture and philosophy

will never bring forth this wonderful realization,

this truth which is natural to awareness,

because the mind that desperately desires

to reach another realm or level of experience

inadvertently ignores the basic light

that constitutes all experience.

The one who fabricates

any division in consciousness

betrays the friendship of Mahamudra.

Cease all activity that separates,

abandon even the desire to be free from desires

and allow the thinking process to rise and fall

smoothly as waves on a shoreless ocean.

The one who never dwells in abstraction

and whose only principle

is never to divide or separate

upholds the trust of Mahamudra.

The one who abandons craving

for authority and definition,

and never becomes one-sided

in argument or understanding,

alone perceives the authentic meaning

hidden in the ancient scriptures.

In the blissful embrace of Mahamudra,

negative viewpoints and their instincts

are burned without remainder, like camphor.

Through the open door of Mahamudra,

the deluded state of self-imprisonment

is easily left behind forever.

Mahamudra is the torch of supreme liberty

shining forth through all conscious beings.

Those beings constituted by awareness

who try to ignore, reject or grasp awareness

inflict sorrow and confusion upon themselves

like those who are insane.

To be awakened from this madness,

cultivate the gracious friendship

of a sublime sage of Mahamudra,

who may appear to the world as mad.

When the limited mind

enters blessed companionship

with limitless Mind,

indescribable freedom dawns.

Selfish or limited motivations

create the illusory sense of imprisonment

and scatter seeds of further delusion.

Even genuine religious teaching

can generate narrowness of vision.

Trust only the approach

that is utterly vast and profound.

The noble way of Mahamudra

never engages in the drama of

imprisonment and release.

The sage of Mahamudra

has absolutely no distractions,

because no war against distractions  has ever been declared.

This nobility and gentleness alone,

this nonviolence of thought and action ,

is the traceless path of all Buddhas.

To walk this all-embracing way

is the bliss of Buddhahood.

Phenomena on every plane of being

are constantly arising and disappearing.

Thus they are forever fresh,

always new and inexhaustible.

Like dreams without solid substance,

they can never become rigid or binding.

The universe exists in a deep, elusive way

that can never be grasped or frozen.

Why feel obsessive desire or hatred for it,

thereby creating illusory bonds?

Renounce arbitrary, habitual views.

Go forth courageously to meditate

in the real mountain wilderness,

the wide open Mahamudra.

Transcend boundaries of kinship

by embracing all living beings

as one family of consciousness.

Remain without any compulsion

in the landscape of natural freedom:

spontaneous, generous, joyful.

When you receive the crown of Mahamudra,

all sense of rank or attainment

will quietly disappear.

Cut the root of the vine that chokes the tree,

and its clinging tendrils wither away entirely.

Sever the conventionally grasping mind,

and all bondage and desperation dissolve.

The illumination from an oil lamp

lights the room instantly,

even if it has been dark for aeons.

Mind is boundless radiance.

How can the slightest darkness

remain in the room of daily perception?

But one who clings to mental processes

cannot awaken to the radiance of Mind.

Strenuously seeking truth

by investigation and concentration,

one will never appreciate

the unthinkable simplicity and bliss

that abide at the core.

To uncover this fertile ground,

cut through the roots of complexity

with the sharp gaze of naked awareness,

remaining entirely at peace,

transparent and content.

You need not expend great effort

nor store up extensive spirtual power.

Remain in the flow of sheer awareness.

Mahamudra neither accepts nor rejects

any current of energy, internal or external.

Since the ground consciousness

is never born into any realm of being,

nothing can add to or subtract from it.

Nothing can obstruct or stain it.

When awareness rests here,

the appearance of division and conflict

disappears into original reality.

The twin emotions of anxiety and arrogance

vanish into the void from which they came.

Supreme knowing knows

no separate subject or object.

Supreme action acts resourcefully

without any array of instruments.

Supreme attainment attains the goal

without past, future or present.

The dedicated practitioner

experiences the spiritual way

as a turbulent mountain stream,

tumbling dangerously among boulders.

When maturity is reached,

the river flows smoothly and patiently

with the powerful sweep of the Ganges.

Emptying into the ocean of Mahamudra,

the water becomes ever-expanding light

that pours into great Clear Light

without direction, destination,

division, distinction or description.

from Mother of the Buddhas by Lex Hixon

.............

The Summary of Mahamudra

Homage to the state of great bliss!

Concerning what is called Mahamudra

All things are your own mind.

Seeing objects as external is a mistaken concept;

Like a dream, they are empty of concreteness.

This mind, as well, is a mere movement of attention

That has no self-nature, being merely a gust of wind.

Empty of identity, like space.

All things, like space, are equal.

When speaking of 'Mahamudra'

It is not an entity that can be shown.

There the mind's suchness

Is itself the state of Mahamudra.

It is neither something to be corrected nor transformed,

But when anyone sees and realizes its nature

All that appears and exists is Mahamudra,

The great all-encompassing Dharmakaya.

Naturally and without contriving, allowed simply to be,

This unimagined Dharmakaya,

Letting it be without seeking is the meditation training.

But to meditate while seeking is deluded mind.

Just as with space and a magical display,

While neither cultivating nor not cultivating

How can you be separate and not separate!

This is a yogi's understanding.

All good deeds and harmful actions

Dissolve by simply knowing this nature.

The emotions are the great wisdom.

Like a jungle fire, they are the yogi's helpers.

How can there be staying or going?

What meditation is there by fleeing to a hermitage?

Without understanding this, all possible means

Never bring more than temporary liberation.

When understanding this nature, what is there to bind you?

While being undistracted from its continuity,

There is neither a composed nor an uncomposed state

To be cultivated or corrected with a remedy.

It is not made out of anything

Experience self-liberated is dharmadhatu.

Thinking self-liberated is great wisdom,

Non-dual equality is dharmakaya.

Like the continuous flow of a great river,

Whatever you do is meaningful,

This is the eternal awakened state,

The great bliss, leaving no place for samasara.

All things are empty of their own identities.

This concept fixed on emptiness has dissolved in itself.

Free of concept, holding nothing in mind,

Is in itself the path of the Buddhas.

For the most fortunate ones,

I have made these concise words of heartfelt advice.

Through this, may every single sentient being

Be established in Mahamudra.

This was givin orally by the great pandita Naropa

to Marpa at Pullahari. (From Songs of Naropa by

Thrangu Rinpoche, translated by Erik Pema Kunsang).

The student asked: “A sage's response to changing conditions

is unlimited. Does he have to study beforehand?”

He should worry only about his mind's not being

clear, and not about the inability to respond to all changing conditions.”

— Wang Yang Ming (1472-1529)

To nourish the vital energy, keep watch in silence;

In order to subdue the mind, act with non-action.

Of movement and stillness, be aware of their origin;

There is no work to do, much less someone to seek.

The true and constant must respond to phenomena;

Responding to phenomena, you must be unconfused.

When unconfused, the nature will stabilize by itself;

When the nature stabilizes, energy returns by itself.

When energy returns, the elixir crystallizes by itself;

Within the pot, the trigrams of kǎn and lí(heaven and earth) are joined.

Yīn and yáng arise, alternating over and over again;

Every transformation comes like a clap of thunder.

White clouds form and come to assemble at the peak;

The sweet nectar sprinkles down Mount Sumeru.

Swallow for yourself this wine of immortality;

You wander so freely—who is able to know you?

Sit and listen to the tune played without strings;

Clearly understand the mechanism of creation.

It comes entirely from these twenty lines;

A true ladder going straight to Heaven.-Daoist text -

"The man, who,  being really  on the Way, falls upon hard times in the world will not,  as a  consequence, turn to that friend who offers him refuge and comfort  and  encourages his old self to survive. Rather, he will seek out  someone who  will faithfully and inexorably help him to risk himself, so  that he may  endure the suffering and pass courageously through it.  Only to the  extent that man exposes himself over and over again to  annihilation, can  that which is indestructible arise within him. In  this lies the dignity  of daring."

– from "The Way of Transformation.....Karl Friedrich Alfred Heinrich Ferdinand Maria Graf Eckbrecht von Dürckheim Montmartin (October 24, 1896 – December 28, 1988) "

In silence there must be movement, and in motion,

There must be silence.
A small movement is better than a big,
no movement is better than a small
silence is all the movement's mother.
In Movement you should be like a dragon or a tiger.
In non Movement you should be like a Buddha.

Wang Xiangzhai or the Yiquan..I think my kripto cycles..while walking...reflects his wisdom words...Spiritually you must practice in motion in the end(first in silence)!!!!!

How can such great attainments be accomplished?
The answer lies in skillful cultivation of the great noble spirit.
What has been said above is abstract though,
Spiritually you must practice it conscientiously.

Now listen to his wisdom..his name was Wang Xiangzhai
and he wrote these verses.....
-added by danny

Extremely subtle and profound,
Boxing theory is not to be taken lightly.
At the beginning of history martial art was of paramount importance;
And it was there that science of learning has its root.
Its essence has largely been lost, having been distorted to a sheer absurdity.
This Boxing is based on spirit and mind,
Merits of all schools are included in it.
Most earnestly I advocate the rejuvenation of shadow boxing,
With a view restoring it to its original essence.
In doing so I devote myself to the exploration of theory,
While considering the combat techniques as only secondary.
To master the quintessence of shadow boxing, Start with pile-stance keeping.
With the universe in your mind,
You learn trial of strength through perception.
Keep bones all over the body well balanced,
Bending of joints is kept with a limit.
As if it where from high in the clouds,
Your breathing should be deep, smooth and gentle.
Feeling comfortable and leisurely,
You behave as if you where mad.
Dismiss all distracting thoughts from your mind,
Concentrate on it as if to listen to the drizzling rain.
Away from the world your body seems,
Nothing is allowed to attached to it.
Visible, the form is like flowing water, Invisible, it is like the atmosphere.
Lithely you act is if you were drunk,
Leisurely you move as if you were bathing.
In meditation you face up towards the sky,
Without desire you set your mind on nothing. Practicing shadow boxing is like going through a furnace,
Everything mental and physical is tempered and molded .
Mind is transformed from within,
Breathing is regulated by the quiet mind.
In quietness you are like a maiden,
In motion you are like a dragon.
Discharge strength in relaxation while keeping the mind tense,
Let hairs stand out like halberds gathering momentum.
Muscles tighten and relax like frightened snakes, steeps are swift as sweep winds.
Huge waves rise underfoot which sweep in length and breadth,
Like a whale turning and swimming across the sea.
At the top of the head a magical force exits,
From a thread the body seems to suspend.
With eyes slightly closed and mind concentrated,
You see nothing and hear next to nothing. Lower abdomen should remain full,
while chest is held back a bit.
The force discharged from finger tips is like electricity,
The tips of the bones are like edges of spears.
Be like an agile monkey in appearance,
Be like a cat in moving your steeps.
Let strength burst out at a mere touch,
Make it stay on without interruption.
As learner you mustn’t feel mysterious about it,
Its plain theory will engender your natural interest.
Mountains seem to be flying when the mind is used,
Seas seem to be overflowing when strength is applied.
Return to infancy to search for the sounds of Nature,
Make the body as slithe as that of a baby in bath.
Don’t do anything like pulling the seeding to make it grow;
But proceed step by step according to the course of nature.
Knowledge contained in shadow boxing is infinite,
Combat skills constitute only a trifling part of it.
First of all strength should be evenly distributed,
And the body squarely erect and well-balanced.
Motion rests in stillness and vice versa,
With spirit directing them both.
Route should go through where center of gravity falls,
Coordinate relaxation and tension without slipperiness or stagnation.
Turning should be done steadily, accurately and in one breath,
Hooking and filing work together and suit each other rightly.
Fortune or misfortune, wisdom or folly, it depends upon careful calculation of the opponents intentions.
Bending and stretching succeed each other immediately,
substantiality and insubstantiality interchange automatically.
Strike a deadly blow at the enemy as fast as lightning.
Display your imposing manner with an eye-expression of a vulture or a tiger,
Move your feet solidly and steadily as if moving in mud.
Like a bird of pray swooping down on and a dragon overturning the sea,
You are full of strength within and around.
Concentrate your mind on the target accurately, mercilessly and ruthlessly,
Be courageous and cautious at the same time.
Whatever chopping, winding, drilling, wrapping or horizontal striking,
Make effort to choose the right time and opportunity.
Keep on practicing it like this with perseverance,
The skill will come to you of itself.
Changes most be made in an invisible way,
Movements must be performed with no fixed intention,
With heroic spirit you can shake the heaven and earth,
With a broad mind you have the worlds in your heart.
What can this boxing be compared to?
It can be compared to Taoist and Buddhist doctrines;
It can be compared to Ban Gu’s writings;
It can be compared to Wang Youjun’s calligraphy;
It can be compared to Wang Wei’s paintings;
Being similar to them in profundity and subtlety.
How can such great attainments be accomplished?
The answer lies in skillful cultivation of the great noble spirit.
What has been said above is abstract though,
Spiritually you must practice it conscientiously.

Yi quan, also known as Dacheng quan, is a martial art system founded by the Chinese Xingyiquan master Wang Xiangzhai (王薌齋).

History

Yi Quan, "Yi" meaning Intent, (but not intention), "Quan" meaning boxing.
Having studied Xing Yi Quan with Guo Yunshen in his childhood,[1] Wang Xiangzhai travelled China, meeting and comparing skills with masters of various styles of kung fu.[1] In the mid-1920s, he came to the conclusion that Xingyiquan students put too much emphasis on komplex patterns of movement (outer form 'xing'), while he believed in the prevalent importance of the development of the mind in order to boost physical martial art skills. [2] He started to teach what he felt was the true essence of the art using a different name, without the 'xing' (form). Wang Xiangzhai, who had a great knowledge about the theory and history of his art, called it "Yiquan" (意拳) In the 1940s one of Wang Xiangzhai's students wrote an article about his "school" and named it "Dachengquan" (大成拳), which means "great achievement boxing". This name was not used by Wang Xiangzhai. Wang thought the name was a poor choice as it was boastful and not very descriptive of the intent.[3]
In the 1930s in Shanghai, Wang's school became famous. A few of his core students were training with him at that time. Brothers Han Xing qiao and Han Xing Yuan,[4] Shao Dao Sheng (perhaps Wang's most accomplished student), all came together during this period. Han Xing Qiao, who was formally adopted by Wang as a son and lived with him for 15 years, was studying One Finger Tway Na (massage), with a scholar and doctor named Qian Yan Tang. Wang studied medicine and culture with Qian Yan Tang, a famous scholar and doctor. The two hit it off and were brothers in researching many mysteries. It was here that Qian introduced the idea that further exploration of Zhan Zhuang (standing practice first and most foundationally taught by Wang's uncle and teacher Guo You Sheng), might be fundamental to the development of Yiquan. Wang researched this idea in the doctor's library, which was full of classic texts. Wang was always changing the practice and method of Yiquan, always innovating, based on natural principles. Much of the development of Yiquan was done in Shanghai. With the help of Han Xing Qiao, Wang set the Zhan Zhuang in order, creating a system seven stages. Later, the basic eight postures were refined into Ju, Bao, Peng, Tway, An, Hua, Ti and closing with Jia So Su. These basic eight postures are still the core of Zhang Zhuang. After this, Wang moved to Beijing, and Han Xing Chiao followed later. When Han arrived there, he found Wang was only teaching three Zhuang. Bao is the universal Zhuang, and so Wang only really taught Bao from that point on. Most of the other practices were dropped as well (for example, push hands and Fa Li). However, students still tried to use Fa Li improperly. When the students saw Wang move fast, they thought of it as Fa Li, or issuing force. There is actually no difference in practicing fast or slow.[citation needed] There is no force at all.[dubious ] The misconception is caused by the mind. The mind conceives of the result as based in two different states, hard and soft, as well as fast and slow. As long as the mind clings to this dualistic model, the student will break everything into two. But the moment of experience is only one.[citation needed] Wang continued development of his art, but few, if any, could follow. Only those who could grasp the one state, and keep it, can move with it. Schools that were founded by students who never progressed this far are numerous to this day. This has always been the social factor of true transmission.

The style

Yiquan is essentially formless, containing no fixed sets of fighting movements or techniques. Instead, focus is put on developing one's natural movement and fighting abilities through a system of training methods and concepts, working to improve the perception of one's body, its movement, and of force. Yiquan is also set apart from other eastern martial arts in that traditional concepts like qi, meridians, dantian etc., are omitted, the reason being that understanding one's true nature happens in the present, and that preconceptions block this process.
Yiquan Is a distillation of the internal aspects at the core of all arts that Wang was exposed to, including Fujian hèquán, T'ai chi ch'uan, bāguàzhǎng, and Liuhebafa[citation needed]. Other arts as well, such as the swimming dragon posture, present in shiao jiao, is transformed through feeling, understanding, and the condition of the practitioner[citation needed]. In fact, typical movements and postures from other systems abound in yiquan. It was the internal core of these other arts that made them effective. This core is what Master Wang decoded.

Overview

The actual training in yiquan can generally be divided into:
  • Zhan zhuang (站樁) Standing pole postures where emphasis is put on natural condition, working to improve listening to the body and on developing hunyuan li, "Natural living force" or "all things that make the whole".
  • Shi li (試力) Testing force moving exercises, trying to bring the sensations of hunyuan li developed through Zhan zhuang into movements.
All of the other practices can be put into one of these two methods.
Different schools practice some degree of different footworks, (Bu Fa and Mo ca Bu), and different movements leading towards free expression of the collected state.
Principle of Nature: All truth and action occur in Shunjian, the split second of now. Everything before and after this moment is 'Wu', the Void, and thus, uncontrollable or unknowable. All objective and preconception is fixed and not in accordance with this undetermined state of Nature. "The Dao that is called the Dao is not the eternal Dao".

Schools

Famous schools include the Han Xing Yuan (韓星垣) School, the Han Xing Qiao (韓星橋) School, the Han Shi Yiquan school (founded by Han Jing Chen), son of Han Xing Qiao], the Li Jian Yu (李見宇) School, the Da Cheng Dao (大成道) School,US. Teachers of modern yiquan include Yao Chengguang (姚承光) and Yao Chengrong (姚承榮), twin sons of Yao Zongxun (姚宗勛) and Cui Ruibin of Beijing. Teachers in Japan include Hidetoshi Mitsuoka (Head of the Japanese branch of Han Shi Yi Quan 日本韓氏意拳学会), Teachers in the USA include Fong Ha of Berkeley, CA (student of Han Xing Yuan), Andrew Plack (Han Shi Yi Quan), Glenn Pasion (Han Shi Yi Quan) of Hawaii, Gregory Fong of Portland, Oregon, John Koo of Portland, Oregon, and Wang Ren Gang(王仁刚, Queens, NY.
